There is lbfgs function for Maxima, it can calculate Minimize.
If it could be implemented to SMath, Minimize problem can be solved.
Sorry but not only the Minimize function - the Minimize function with constrains!

As far as I know, you can use constrains in lbfgs.
x<1,y>1 etc should work if you mean that by constrains.
