Davide,

I apologize in advance if what I am saying is a little bit off-topic but I have seen in detail what you are developing ..and I was thinking in the mean time about the callout functions I was trying to develop and because going ahead in my pathway more and more the performance of the program get worse, I was asking (just because you are a wizard on this side) if it would be possible for you to develop something simple that overlap to the canvas ( it should NOT be linked to a specifc region ) and that allows just to draw simple things like a line, polyline,a square a circle ( I am not asking for the Insert-> Illustration -> Shapes palette of MS Excel that is too cumbersome/crowded ).

I am bothering for this because it would be a simple tool to allow the possibility to pinpoint and highligt text/formulas on the canvas and particular points or elements of a graph in a flexible way for documentation purposes.

I am asking for this because in the raster chart region there is this overlapping of lines to define the scale of the graph and pick values from it, so probably if what we want is just draw something without any interaction with the underlaing region it should be simpler ( but I know that probably I am saying something stupid because for sure someone has already thought of this and it is impossible to accomplish ...but I can't refreain from asking ) .

Take care and best regards

Franco

Hello Franco,

I think that to some extent it is possible to add these kind of objects on the canvas, however the 3rd dimension position (how objects are stacked) is driven by the position of the bounding box on the canvas, therefore an object migth be not visible or oddly placed depending on the position of the other objects. I'll investigate it however (I remember a "shapes" region was on my TODO list at some point).
