you should make a new thread with this tip only, and you have it with the perfect example!
that new followers to smath don't have to go through that ordeal anymore!

Hiding forum members because of their annoying and misleading posts may be the only way to prevent angry young men from hyping such posts by flame wars.

Yet it also means to not warn novices if once again we are told not to use physical units.

So think twice before using the hide feature. Even the most annoying forum user is part of human family and deserves respect. You never know when you might be in a minority position, e.g if you don't share the wish for forced risky gen-tech treatment or don't think that the Ukraine war started a year ago.

Done.

It is a pity that new users will see his bad advice and non-engineering.

Perhaps add this to the tips for new users?

Each person here has the right to decide for himself whether to use this function or not, since he also belongs to the human family. One of my functions here, as a moderator, is to give everyone the opportunity to choose which tool to use. How he will use it depends on him.
I repeat, I do not forbid anything, but I show how to use the forum's features. This feature can be enabled or disabled globally for all messages. In addition, each hidden message has a button that allows you to view it. This is an additional degree of freedom for each forum member. Exactly the same as using AdBlock in the browser.

So if you hide the messages of a user, you still see an entry but have to open it deliberately just as with a spoiler tag. Good to know.

This seems to me a moderate form of blocking users. For me, a no-go would be if the admins would block users based on mismatch of opinions and beliefs, which has become ubiqitous in the social media. Of course, removing outside spammers is fine for me.

I absolutely appreciate the hide-feature and promoting knowledge about it in the forum. Clearly, everyone decides himself what features to use.

BTW, I am clearly supporting removal or marking of obvious off-topic (perhaps the topic opener might be given the right to nominate candidate posts) or misleading contributions (perhaps based on a black list of statements (discouraging the use of units for engineering calculations). This seems to me like removing a wrongly parked car from the side walk.

If this happens to affect always the same users, then be it.

How about comparing signal to noise ratio?
SNR 1: 24/68
SNR 2: 928/6429

It looks like you don't understand what you are talking about. I think you need to cool down first and then take another look at this. YAF.NET - this is the forum we use here.

I will continue the analogy. Any person wants to sleep and you should keep the doors to your apartment always open, because every person has the right to sleep where he wants. He belongs to the human family and deserves respect.
If you think that the apartment is your private property, then I will answer - the choice of each person what to watch on the monitor is his private business.

And you teach each individual forum member how he should use his attention. This is a personal matter for everyone.
What will be next? Would you suggest thinking twice about turning off the TV?

I believe that you simply did not understand what this post is about, since you have not explored the possibilities available to you for 11 years.

It is indeed easy, but I would rather a feature/ability to hide/ignore/collapse a specific comment within a post (if not a specific post, then a user's contribution within a specific thread); a blanket 'ignore' across the whole forum is a little too broad for me. On that note; if it is possible to ignore a specific comment, it would also be interesting if you had a counter on how many users ignored it (like a 'thank you' flag):

Show Spoiler

I understand that such a feature is easier said then done though.

Regardless, Thank you for this tid·bit of knowledge.

Some modern forums have such functionality, but currently no one is working on the engine of this forum. Some time ago Andrey told me that he wanted to replace this forum. I think this will happen when the program has an army of users who pay for the program.
