Hi all,

I have been unable to open a file this morning, receiving the error "root element is missing".

I have tried to use the SMath file recovery tool but received the following error:

"Operation aborted: Not enough data to recover or wrong file type.

The SMath build is 0.98 (build 6179)

I would be grateful for help and suggestions.

Regards

Ian

Look at your file ...0 kB => file is empty.
It results from a crash of some kind. On voluminous work sheet
save regularly and save alternately as 'Copy', eventually you
will not lose everything. This happens when for some reason
Smath aborts finishing calculations [wrong code, infinite loop...]
Redo the work sheet, change name ... backup, backup !

OK, thank you.

I had recently created a new version, so repeating the work was relatively easy in the end.

Mathcad crash are more detrimental as users tend to construct immense work sheet [> 90 pages !!!].
Typical Smath crash is announced by the work sheet suddenly turning ½ tone, nothing to do to rescue,
simply try to shut the PC "OFF" ... all work lost ! You will get used to Smath.
There is an immense amount of good work sheets in "Samples".

Cheers, Jean
